June 13, 2011 - Roosevelt Beach Park

Monday morning, the forecast was for strong winds in the east!  We called Harold W, who was still driving in from Edmonton to tell him not to go any further than Roosevelt Park, and the rest of us headed out around 10:00 after picking up Harold W's new Kode Board at Big Winds.

Big Jim was blasting back and forth
 - fully powered!
When we got there the wind was a bit light, which gave me an opportunity to get out on my new 120 litre Naish.  The wind continued to build, and steadied out throughout the day.

By the end of the day, I think all of our gear (every board size and sail size) was rigged on the beach.  With 13 of us, and multiple boards and sails, that is quite a site.....

Cam going into a jibe!

It was such a great day, that it is hard to tell any funny stories.  No injuries, no breakdowns, just lots of sailing.   Big Air Jim, does talk about how Cam (lacking the experience, wisdom, and windsurfing prowess of his father in-law) timed the lull perfectly, and took out his 256 (small board), and too small a sail, to slog all the way across the river and back.
Why he didn't turn around 1/2 way no one knows....
Go Cam Go!

Harold W, arrived- meeting us in Rossevelt

Kent disappeared for long periods at a time, slashing the large swell on the far side - way out of camera range.  Kent rates the day in his top 10 windsurfing days ever - perfectly balanced on his 4.2 and yellow board.

I set up my camera late in the day and shot video of the guy's charging towards the beach and then doing big wide jibes in the inside.

Blaine had a great day!

Handre had a great day blasting back and forth.  He claims he will be jibing by the end of the week! I believe it!

It was about 6:30 by the time we finally got off the water.  It was still blowing hard, but none of us had anything left...

We arrived late in Hood River, thinking we would go China Gorge for dinner, but it is closed Mondays...

Big Air Jim - no energy left
not even any rude comments...
Well - not as many as usual....
Half of us went for Mexican, while the other half went to 6th street.  The house was very quite after 10:00pm.  Everyone was pretty much Toast.

Looking forward to more wind tomorrow!

Kent - slogging back after
a top 10 day on his 4.2 in the
huge swell on the far side!

A barge goes by during a lull
towards the end of the day.
My new 120 Naish - don't tell Louise...

Unfortunately most of the action was on the far side of the river, so I couldn't take any photos....
